Planning a trip to Disneyland and a little unsure as to which rides allow babywearing??
It can be a bit overwhelming remembering which attractions allow you to wear your little one, which make you take them off, make you turn baby forward facing, make you sit baby beside you and which do not allow babies at all!!!

Fortunately, PAXbaby.com and The Happily Ever After Social Club put their heads together and came up with these extensive lists for you to use:

Disneyland Ride Guide

These rides are #babycate’s favorites and are also great choices if you don’t want to spin :
Alice in Wonderland

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters

Casey Jr. Circus Train

Enchanted Tiki Room

“it’s a small world”

California Adventure Ride Guide
#babycate would like to personally recommend these rides at California Adventure for her fellow baby friends and also anyone who gets dizzy :
The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley

Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train

**************************************************

Please keep in mind that a lot depends on the cast member attending the attraction at the time of your visit; if you are turned away from a ride or find your experience to be different from what we have documented, please email and let us know! help@PAXbaby.com

These helpful spreadsheets provide a list of the rides categorized by  height requirement, whether they are babywearing or pregnancy friendly, walk through or sit down ride, and number of passengers allowed per car.

For big families or friends traveling with a range of children’s ages, it is REALLY important to make use of the Rider Switch Passes which can be obtained from the ride operator. MOST rides have these available and allow the parent waiting with the smaller babies to then take TWO children back on the ride – often through the exit or Fastpass line. Also know that children over 14 can take younger children in line and also on rides without an adult, however children 7-14 can ride alone as long as a parent is with them on the ride but not necessarily in the same seat. children younger than 7 who meet the height requirement for the attraction must be sitting with someone 14 or older.

It is so interesting to me to watch the evolution of today’s babywearing culture!  A few years ago, there were a handful of known baby carrier brands, and now look at all the choices!!!  Celebrities wear their babies, government officials wear their babies, and regular everyday parents wear their babies!  Babywearing is no longer limited to granola eating, Birkenstock wearing moms, although I give credit to my mom for starting the baby carrier come back in the 80s while wearing long skirts and peasant blouses!  I know that here in Southern California, wearing your baby in a carrier is not only acceptable in mainstream society but also commended by doctors, midwives, and chiropractors!  However, for those of you who are the ONLY babywearers you  have ever seen or met, more BWing power to you! It must be hard to be the ONLY one!

PAXbaby.com

Just like in our world, there are only a few species of animals in the wild who carry their babies! No wonder  the Kangaroo and the Koala are considered to be babywearing mascots!!!!  The thought that those animals have built in slings is just too adorable!!  This onesie from Old Navy seemed especially pertinent for our babyworn little ones!  “I {heart} hanging out with mom”  Oh too cute!!!

What is everyone’s worst nightmare on a plane???  Yep,  sitting next to – or holding – a screaming and inconsolable baby! With nowhere to go and nothing to do once up in the air, an unhappy little traveller can simultaneously break the heart of his attentive parent and break the eardrums of those sharing close quarters with him.

*cue superhero-esque background music* Parents and travelers near and far, never fear – it’s babywearing to the rescue!  Take it from this adventurous mom, it’s all about the right carrier for the job!  My all time favorite carrier is the Wrap Conversion Ring Sling, but when you go to breastfeed, you may find it to be too wide to sit in the airplane seat and nurse without baby’s feet in the lap of your next door neighbor!  Try a buckle carrier instead – especially the Beco Butterfly II- for quick maneuvering and easily concealed breastfeeding! The BBII is my go to carrier for any sort of traveling or activity where baby may need to be removed from the carrier quickly.  Because of the internal panel, when baby is lifted out, the carrier remains on your body, without dangling straps or long yards of fabric hanging!!!!  It’s the quickest SSC and cute to boot!

Last minute luggage re-organization in the parking lot needed!?!?  Do it with your hands free and a smile on your face!

PAXbaby.com

PAXbaby.com

Don’t these lovely babywearers look happy and calm amidst baggage check in and airport security chaos?  By the way, flying with babies through both San Diego and SFO was a breeze!  The babies weren’t asked to be taken out, and we only needed our hands swiped, no body scans for these moms!

PAXbaby.com

Who knew a single human being could carry a 1 year old baby, a diaper bag (thank you, Puck and Whimsy, for helping me trave in style!), a laptop bag and a rolly suitcase through an international airport without a single problem and successfully make their flight?

PAXbaby has hit the road – and in supreme style and comfort, don’t you agree?!  This weekend, we packed up the family – and one of our favorite carriers – into the NewDVan and headed north: destination Santa Barbara!

One of the most challenging decisions to make when packing up for a road trip for a family of 8 is choosing which beautiful carrier (or 2, or 3!) to bring along. We left the stroller at home in favor of  this gorgeous Tula in Folk Birds as a perfectly colorful addition to our road trip back to the town where it all began!

(Notice anyone missing from this picture? Sweet baby #5 thought it a perfect time and place to fall fast asleep in his daddy’s arms!)

Want one of these lovelies for yourself? Head on over to PAXbaby, and check out our selection of Tula soft structured carriers to take with you on YOUR next family road trip!

Beco & Baking

I’m a black thumb when it comes to gardening, I am not much of a cook, and I can’t sew a straight line worth beans.  But give me a (relatively) simple recipe to bake, and I can pull it off with (relative) success!  The only thing is, I have to be able to make the recipe while wearing the baby!  Otherwise, he ends up on the table, getting flour in his hair, and no one, not even his grandma, wants to eat a treat that he has had his paws in!

So, when I found this pretzel recipe, I decided to give it a whirl with the kids, and it was an instantaneous hit!  By the time the big daddy got home from his errands, every last pretzel had disappeared into our growly tummies!  I made a few amendments, and developed a treat version also, perfect for the holidays!  We’ve made this recipe almost weekly even while traveling through Australia, it is THAT easy!  Keep in mind, this recipe doesn’t make traditional Bavarian pretzels, but kid friendly, delicious doughy pretzels that you can make in batches for special occasions, school parties, and just for your own family’s enjoyment!  heart

Beco & BakingPAXpretzels – will make 8 large or 10-12 small pretzels

1 teaspoon instant yeast
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tbsp cinnamon (less or more depending on your love for cinnamon)
1 cup warm milk (1 minute zapped in the microwave)
2 1/2 – 3 cups all-purpose flour (add more if the dough is still wet)

  • Preheat to 425 degrees & set a pot of water to boil.
  • Combine & mix the first 4 ingredients.
  • Start adding in 2 cups of flour, and add more slowly while stirring (beware the white poof if you add the flour too quickly!)
  • You’re looking for your dough to go from a thick batter to a bread like dough that you can hand knead.
  • Spread a handful of flour on your clean (no children’s tongues have licked it, please!) surface, and hand knead your dough for 5-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth & satiny.
  • Cut the dough into even pieces and roll into short snakes.  Let the dough relax for 10 minutes, and stretch the snakes longer.  Shape into pretzels, roll into cinnamon roll shapes, or pinch the middle and curl the sides around into hearts.
  • Boil each pretzel for 5 seconds and place on a greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle each PAXpretzel with a cinnamon sugar blend.
  • Bake for 8-15 minutes depending on the size of the pretzel! Eat as soon as you can without burning your tongue!

All done, mama!

Aren’t they BEE-You-T-FULL???

A yummy heart just for my little love!

2 years today, the PAXbaby family packed our belongings into 11 suitcases, duffelbags, and backpacks, and set off on a 5 month adventure!!!  We took 5 children under 7 millions of miles away to explore New Zealand and Australia, and returned back home to Southern California filled with memories & promises!  We promise we will go back again, we promise we will never forget the gorgeous scenery, the lovely people, the warm welcome we received everywhere we went!  Traveling was fun, exciting, and downright crazy with this many little ones, however we both owe babywearing a HUGE thank you for making traveling as easy as possible with a baby and a busy toddler!  Both the PAXdaddy and I wore our baby carriers pretty much all day every day when we were exploring, whether hiking through rain forests avoiding huge man sized spiderwebs, visiting museums and monuments in major cities, or walking on white sand beaches watching dolphins in the surf!  2 years later, the memories are still vivid: the way the air smelled clean and fresh even in metropolises, the surprise we got when we realized the constellations in the night sky were all different, the unusual habit of everyone – even grown people – to walk barefoot everywhere!  I’ll be posting regularly babywearing pictures from our Down Under experience so we can relive the fun together!

By the sea, by the sea, by the beautiful sea.
You and I, you and I, oh, how happy we’ll be.

Over and under and then up for air.

PAXbaby.com“The Beco Gemini… is quite possibly, one of the best baby purchases I have made. The pic is in Sea World Orlando. It was PERFECT! There are so many place you can’t take a stroller, so I would pop him in the Gemini and show him around. I think the carrier made the trip as he was happy as a clam in it! Of course, it was also perfect for his naps and when he wanted to be close to his mom.”

101 ways to use a wrap

#99 – as a toga!

PAXbaby.com

When we spent 5 months Down Under last year, I promised my husband I would take as few carriers as possible!  What that meant to him was room in our luggage for his ukulele books!  What that meant to me was a heart wrenching decision of which carrier made the cut, and which had to stay home!  The end result was a sad mama with 1 ring sling (Solarweave!) 1 pouch (for church!) 1 wrap (Wrapsody Bali Breeze!) and 1 solitary Soft Structured Carrier (Beco Butterfly II Scooters)  I had my Dylan set out also, but SOMEHOW it got left behind, hmmm…..

Anyway, the Bali wrap came in handy not only as a baby carrier, but as you can see here, my son’s beach garb when he felt that the sun was getting too hot!  Love the Breeze because it has perfect combination of  “give” (essential in a good wrap) and support (also necessary when wearing a toddler)!!!  Some woven wraps will cause soreness on your pressure points if the rails get twisted somehow or you don’t have baby properly positioned, but the Bali Breeze is forgiving, as well as light weight, and beautiful to boot!

Y’all know that I am Beco‘s #1 fan, so you won’t be surprised that I have my finger on the pulse for any Beco give away that may be happening!   I would LOVE to help one of my babywearing friends win a new Beco, so stick around for tips on where to go to score a Butterfly for yourself!  And if you don’t win, come order one with me and I’ll give you a little goodie as a prize of your own!

Diana B. is an experienced mom, babywearing advocate, chicken keeper, gardener,  and Spanish food know-it-all!  When she traveled to Spain last month, she and her sister BOTH wore Beco Butterflies and took lots of pictures of their International babywearing  adventures!  Become part of Diana’s life by reading her blog, “A Little Bit of Spain in Iowa” and try your hand at winning a Beco by entering her contest!  Here’s Diana:

If you’re not familiar with the Beco Baby Carrier, it’s a backpack style carrier which allows you to carry a newborn up to a 45lb toddler on your front or back.

Designed by a babywearing parent, active sailor and rock climber, Gabby Caperon. Beco combines perfect ergonomics, excellent weight distribution and stylish design from top quality fabrics. Each carrier is handmade by a skilled seamstress in facilities which apply high social and economical standards. Sustainability and minimal impact of our production on the environment is important to us. We strive to provide the best quality, safe products and friendly customer service.

Reading the Beco story, designer and owner Gabby Caperon, produced the first Beco from her home as an at home mom.  She needed a more comfortable carrier to carry her growing baby and researched traditional baby carrying from other cultures.  She sewed her first Mei Tei and when she needed something a bit more sturdier she looked towards the innovation of a backpack.  I love it!  Brilliant mom’s creating with passion and love!

I’m so glad Gabby is sharing this product with the world because it was so useful on my trip.  I used it in the airport, buses, trains, touring, to market, and especially as a safe haven for my child as he slept on me.

One of my absolute favorite things about baby carrying is the closeness that it brings to your child.  Feeling their every breath, touch and movement is a constant reminder that my joy and my place in life, at this moment, is to be their mami.

I used my carrier to carry my toddler mostly on my back, however, I would rotate him to the front to sleep or sit in my lap on public transportation.

The Beco was really amazing on long train rides, as I knew my toddler was sleepy but… he’s rambunctious!  The Beco kept him strapped onto me where we chatted, talked, sang and slept!  It was great 😀

Before I go on, I do want to make it clear that the Beco Baby Carrier was given to me.  This review is unedited and based solely on my opinion.

The Beco Baby Carrier was also comfortable and easy to use.  The straps are padded and easy to adjust.  You can pull them down and tighten the strap.  The bottom support pad and strap kept his weight distributed evenly and I could carry him for quite a long time.  Below is one of many instructional videos.

This is my first backpack carrier and I am enjoying it!  Before I had this carrier, I carried Zekie in a moby wrap as a newborn and moved to a Baby Bjorn that was given to me as a baby shower gift.  He was already used to be carried by mami, but what I found so enjoyable is that he enjoyed riding on my back.  “Up high!”  “Up high!” Zekie would yell… so cute!!
I also enjoyed that I was able to carry my older son in it.  He enjoyed it as well!

After this trip, I told my husband as long as each of the boys could be in a carrier, I was no longer fearful to visit the Grand Canyon!  Maybe a future vaca is in order 😉

The people of Beco were gracious enough to give my sister a Beco as well.  Anyone that reads my blog knows that my family and I are very close.  So it was so much fun being able to carry our babies together.  Ezra was five months at the time and enjoyed the closeness of sleeping on his mama.

The only thing that was difficult for my sister is that Ezra does enjoy being carried facing out.  Unfortunately, the Beco does not allow the baby to face out.  Maybe a feature they could add in the future?

Since coming home, I’ve had opportunities of using it at the farmers market, while gardening, at the pool, on walks, at a wedding and other everyday routines and events we’ve attended.  really it’s been my secret weapon to keeping a toddler from hitting the high road! As my hubby and I are praying about bambino number 3, it makes me even more excited to think about carrying him/her in the Beco!

As Beco Baby Carrier’s #1 fan, PAXbaby couldn’t be more excited about the newest Beco edition!  Following in the footsteps of the beloved 4th Generation and the Butterfly I and II, the Gemini promises to be everything that a modern mom would dream of!  Fabulous designer fabrics, maximum comfort for parent and child,  ease of use, and that extra special Beco flair that makes Beco Baby Carriers my FAVORITE baby carrier! If you are interested in the differences between the Butterfly and the Gemini, please read my detailed blog post comparing the 2 Beco carriers!

I can’t tell you any more than this: The Gemini is wonderful, elegant, and you won’t be disappointed!    Are you excited?  I thought you would be!  So while you are waiting ever so patiently you can decide what to do about the new Gemini!  Here are some options:
Since your husband already told you “no more baby carriers,”  why not “borrow” the Gemini to see what you think!  Then, if you love it and have to have it, you can work out the details later with the man of the house!

Sign up for the Traveling Gemini, a Beco Gemini will start here with the PAXbaby mama and then will begin its National tour delighting babywearers across the USA!

Or simply buy a Gemini for yourself and enjoy the Beco goodness with your very own Gemini baby carrier!  Remember, if you don’t absolutely love it, you have 90 days to return your Gemini to PAXbaby for a refund or an exchange!

I can’t tell you when exactly the Gemini will make its appearance, but I am about to burst with the surprise, so stay tuned!

This is an early Gemini prototype, worn with my 10 month old last September!
