Seasons of Love

“How do you measure a season of love??? 525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes….”
When I think about how many minutes and moments PAXdaddy Aaron and I have spent together over our 17 years of marriage, my only wish is that I could remember each and every memory; the more time passes and the more experiences we’ve had, the more that the good, the bad, and the ugly fade together into one sweet dream. So many hours and days and weeks, months and years we’ve spent together cultivating our personal garden. Each of our amazing children are growing as trees with fruit to nourish us as parents. As each year passes and our trees mature, we are enjoying so much abundant harvest from our personal garden! The seeds were sown with love and care years ago, and now we get to sit back, enjoy the shade and munch on some amazing produce! I’m not saying that it’s all been one long honeymoon; we’ve experienced a blight in the orchard and a few insect infestations, but our life together has been so blessed! With sunshine, Vitamin D, compassion, and communication, I’ve watched our tiny tendrils sprout and stretch into a blissful garden of Eden! Happy anniversary to the love of my life, my personal gardener, and the one who makes ALL our lives go ’round! Here’s to our past 17 years and 17 more, Aaron!

1,000 Cranes Traveling Wrap

Today we are sharing an amazing story… One of our PAXmommies had the pleasure of hosting this beautiful wrap for two weeks, and brought it to a PAXbaby Playdate where many moms all got to snuggle and love up on it before it was sent on it’s merry way. PAXmommy Jillian and #babycate were #7 to try it.

1,000 Cranes of Love Around the World.

The Background:

I have a very dear friend who is in one of the longest struggles of infertility I have personally witnessed. Every step of the process has seemed to be filled with more obstacles than anyone ever should endure. When she was about 3 years into her struggle, my husband and I made her 1000 cranes in order to help her wish come true (Japanese tradition). When I saw the Artipoppe origami “folded” wraps this winter, I immediately thought that a 1000 cranes wrap is what she needs! I PM’d Anna (owner of Artipoppe) and she said she was planning to release several this year. I put up an ISO immediately asking for mamas help in getting this wrap. They were released on 2/19/2014 and within a couple of hours, a mama offered me the one she had been so lucky to score! It’s 1000 Cranes Dawn.

The Plan:

The plan is to make this gift extra special by having it travel through many lovely mamas (hopefully at least a 1000 babies) who will give it magic mama and baby love. Then I will give it to her when she is ready to receive it (probably not until she is firmly through 1st trimester or later). A journal will travel with the wrap (please see Journal instructions doc). Anyone who wants to send other mementos can send them directly to Anna Meyer ( PM me for my address). If you have other ideas, please also PM us (admins are myself and my SIL Sally Soliman). I want to try to include each and every one of you who have expressed interest. Logistically, we will have a wrap caretaker in each location who will arrange ways for many mamas in the community to participate.

What Did YOU Learn from Your Teachers?

What life lessons did you learn from your teachers when you were younger that you still carry with you today?
PAXmommy Jillian came across this unique and beautiful story of how a mentor relationship between a student and teacher continued long after high school was over :

The relationship between former student Frances and her teacher Christina Singhi, or as she was known “Miss Rouw,” started many years ago when Frances was still a sophomore in high-school. Christina quickly became Frances’ mentor, and showed herself to be someone who not only taught her pupils subjects in school, but lessons in life.

After Frances graduated, she continued to keep in touch with Miss Rouw (Christina) and frequently came back to visit as an alumni. She watched as her teacher got married, and then became pregnant with her first child. Christina never pretended life was easy, as some adults do; Frances watched her balance life as a mother, as a woman, & as a teacher.

When Frances herself became a mother, Christina was the first one to show her the ropes. She introduced her to a whole new world of parenting filled with cloth diapers, ring slings and babywearing meetings. As Frances said, she “would still be sporting a crotch dangling Bjorn and sending megatons of diapers to the landfill if it wasn’t for her!” Christina even lent Frances her very first ring sling… and well, like the rest of us, the rest is history… Frances is now the proud owner of 2 Wrap Conversion Ring Slings, 2 Girasol Woven Wraps, a Natibaby wrap, and two meh dais.

It is not often that you hear of a teacher so invested in their student’s lives, especially after they graduate and leave high school. Think of how many people in today’s society would benefit from having a solid mentor like Christina!!! Amazing!!!

“I have become the Mom my daughter needs, the ideal Mom in ways I never thought I could be with the help and guidance of Christina. Yes, her job is being a teacher, but what she may not realize is that she continues to be my teacher off the clock.”

What Frances may not realize is that Christina benefited from their friendship as well! Seeing a student grow up and as Christina said, “become a beautiful young woman, mother, wife, and photographer reminds me of why I do my job.” It must be a wonderful feeling to look back at your students and see how you were able to help someone. Christina is able to look at Frances and see the growth, see the journey from awkward teenager to woman. Teachers have an important role of not only mentoring and teaching their students, but also helping them learn how to grow as individuals.

Thus Christina and Frances’ relationship grew from bonding over textbooks, to bonding over diapers and baby slings. As an educator, Christina continues to share the babywearing love whenever she can, and hopes that Frances (with her new found addiction) will teach her how to use a ring sling and a woven wrap with a new squish of her own one day.
