From Marissa at Cuddle Muffins : I am a stay-at-home solo parent and cloth diapering enthusiast. I started my business after getting involved in diaper group customs, & Gretchen of Twinkie Tush encouraged me to turn my fabric shopping into a business. I began by launching a personal fabric shopping business. After a year of finding fabulous fabrics and building an amazing customer base centered around WAHMs and their customers, I launched custom printing in October 2014. I print locally which is quite uncommon in the online custom printing world. I drop artwork off in person and pick up all completed fabric in person. Picking out prints and interacting with my customers is a part of my job that I enjoy *SO* much. I adore my WAHMs and seeing what they create!

I love that I get to keep my daughter, Jilly, with me all the time. When we are with the printer, she is secure on my back in her Tula. When I’m cutting, she’s in the room with me playing. Being her mama is the most important thing; I love that I have a career that allows me to give her 100% while still being able to build my business.

A little about Lucky Stars and the WAHM behind it all:

Ashley has one beautiful little toddler, Raina, who is the absolute star of her life.
Her journey into the cloth diapering world began when her daughter was only around 5 or 6 months old, and had begun to show a sensitivity to disposable diapers. No matter what Ashley did, little Raina seemed to be fighting rashes and breakouts left and right. After much frustration, a friend approached her asking if she knew anything about cloth diapering. IMPORTANT: Prewash dark color diapers six times separately before washing with other diapers.
Before First Use: Wash hot (140F/60C) 3-5 times for maximum absorbency.
Use: Do not use rash creams.
Dirty Storage: Store in dry pail/bin.
Wash: Wash darks separately. Pre-wash cold. Wash hot (140F/60C) with bumGenius detergent. Extra rinse. No laundry additives. Tumble dry – low. No fabric softeners. Use 1/4 cup or 60 mL bleach in the hot wash once per month.

Cloth diaper users love to save a little money, and my favorite way to pinch a few pennies is by making my own wipe solution! This can be used for bum wipes, but isn’t just for bottoms, I use this economical solution to clean faces, counters, and toys!!! All you need is your favorite essential oil (I prefer lavender or lemon for #babycate,) and a peri bottle or nail polish remover pump bottle like you can see in my photos! Add water and your own cloth wipes and you are ready to go!

Giving Diapers, Giving Hope was founded by Kristen McCarthy.

She went through a very hard time financially, with literally no money coming in to support her children.  Through her struggles, she realized how much she was thankful for her cloth diaper stash, during these hard times. As she was washing her diapers one day, she thought to herself,

“Thank goodness I cloth diaper because if I didn’t I wouldn’t even know how I could buy my children diapers!”

She began realizing that there were no federally funded programs for cloth diapers, and if she didn’t have cloth, she would have no means to diaper her children.

What did other low-income families do if they didn’t cloth diaper!??!

How would did they get by??

These thoughts led Kristen to start a non-profit organization with her good friend Emily, called Giving Diapers, Giving Hope “which lends cloth diapers to low income families to help lessen the burden of diapering their babies and hopefully put the money they save towards bills, food and clothing.”

 “We founded GDGH in April 2011 and we are excited about all of the families we have been able to help, just through donations alone. We have gotten a good amount of donations, but we obviously are still needing more so we can help as many families as possible. Along with providing diapers to needy families, we are also providing cloth diapering education and support for the duration of the family borrowing the diapers. Our hope is that it is as positive experience as possible for each family. We are also going to try to provide them with as many cloth diapering accessories as possible, such as wetbags, snappi’s, cloth diaper detergent, etc.

This is a really exciting project for me because it obviously hits very close to home. I am aware that some of the people we are helping might be in a better financial situation than I am, but there are many ways we can be struggling. Even though I am still struggling financially, having the Giving Diapers, Giving Hope Foundation has given me so much hope, regardless of my financial situation and I hope that by helping out other struggling families and by alleviating some of their financial stress, this will provide them with hope as well.”
