**It’s important to pick a carrier that fits your child *now*, rather than choosing something to grow into, as a too large carrier can be a safety concern. To test fit, be sure your child’s shins hang at a right angle to their thighs, with no buckling or scrunching of the carrier fabric and that their head clears the top of the carrier. Once a child is able to walk, “knee to knee” is no longer a necessity. Always check the manufacturer’s sizing prior to using a carrier for your child.

Tips to wear your buckle carrier in comfort when you have plump “baby pillows!!”

Mamas with large chests, don’t be scared off by the buckle carrier! With the perfect adjustment, you and your baby AND the girls can babywear happily into the sunset!

Tip #1 – The position on your torso of your waistband is vital! You will need to clip higher than your hips to ensure that your baby won’t be face forward right into your cleavage; however that exact spot depends completely on your torso length and your baby’s seated height. Please be sure that when baby is fully seated, their head will be high enough to easily kiss, which will be above your breasts.

Tip #2 – When adjusting the chest clip, be sure to have it level on your back, between your shoulder blades and realistically as low as you can reach. The lower you place that clip, the more pressure it will take off the side of your breasts.

Tip #3 – If you are experiencing any soreness or mastitis / plugged duct symptoms, desist wearing ANY carrier until you can get taken care of. The worst thing you can do is irritate a duct and continue to put pressure on it!!!

Tip #4 – When adjusting your shoulder straps, try to loosen them so that they cup around your shoulder blades and connect to the carrier front panel far below your armpit. The armpit is a busy nerve receptor that you don’t want to mess with; as you can see in the photo, coming down farther on your breast is ideal.

Tip #5 – Please be sure to have a good grip on breastfeeding basics before attempting to combine breastfeeding with babywearing! Both skills are advanced, and you want to give your baby the best chance you can to excel at both! If you are out & about and baby is hungry, try removing the carrier’s shoulder straps. Laying baby sideways in your lap with the carrier rolled or folded underneath to give support. A light blanket can be used to cover, or you can live it up, and let the milk fly!

As if picking out a carrier to wear is not hard enough on a regular day… try packing for a 7 day camping trip over 9 hours away from home.

EEEK!!!

With a 5 year old, 2.5year old and an almost 10 month ago, and a small RV, I really had to choose carefully.

Ring sling? Shorties? How many long wraps? Which SSCs??

This is what I ended up with:

My Zanytoes SPLASH! Water Ring Sling (in Blackberry) was a MUST, of course.

We traveled to four different lakes on our trip, and I loved the fact that it was quick drying and light weight. Babe was happy, and I had two hands free to look after my splashing toddler (preschooler? eek!).

PAXbaby.com’s Surprise Rainbow – Rosa Fuschia in size 6 was next.

Bright, fun, long enough for almost anything, and I never had to worry about dirt.

KoKaDi Dragon Blood Stars in size 3.

Long enough for a quick ruck, or side carry, and short enough that my tails were not constantly on the ground while I was wrapping. Great for back carries to allow me to eat, whilst standing.

je porte mon bebe – Noir Noir Stretchy Wrap

This wrap totally surprised me.  CRAZY, supportive hybrid stretch. I cannot even really describe the feel of it, completely unlike any stretchy I have EVER felt before. Easy to wrap with for both front and back carries, and my nearly 10 month old felt light as air.  This wrap is totally underrated. Comfy, cozy and especially nice for chilly nights around the camp fire. I think this will be one of my coziest wraps for Autumn.

Last but not least, our Tula Baby Carriers.

Toddler and Standard.

Definitely a must have around here as my husband can buckle one on with no fuss, and I prefer to tandem with the Toddler Tula on my back. Love our Tulas for longer walks or hikes, and rainy days.  No need to worry about mud, puddles, or stepping on tails.
