How does one measure love?

Certainly not based on the size of a placenta, but in my case, it’s all I have left of my baby. 15 weeks in my belly, 8 weeks in heaven; my heart will never be whole again but I wouldn’t give back this time for the world.

Seasons of Love

“How do you measure a season of love??? 525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes….”
When I think about how many minutes and moments PAXdaddy Aaron and I have spent together over our 17 years of marriage, my only wish is that I could remember each and every memory; the more time passes and the more experiences we’ve had, the more that the good, the bad, and the ugly fade together into one sweet dream. So many hours and days and weeks, months and years we’ve spent together cultivating our personal garden. Each of our amazing children are growing as trees with fruit to nourish us as parents. As each year passes and our trees mature, we are enjoying so much abundant harvest from our personal garden! The seeds were sown with love and care years ago, and now we get to sit back, enjoy the shade and munch on some amazing produce! I’m not saying that it’s all been one long honeymoon; we’ve experienced a blight in the orchard and a few insect infestations, but our life together has been so blessed! With sunshine, Vitamin D, compassion, and communication, I’ve watched our tiny tendrils sprout and stretch into a blissful garden of Eden! Happy anniversary to the love of my life, my personal gardener, and the one who makes ALL our lives go ’round! Here’s to our past 17 years and 17 more, Aaron!

Nurturing a love for books!

Reading with your child is a small investment with a HUGE pay off! Reading the same book over and over teaches directionality and provides comfort, & the repetition of the story leads to deeper assimilation of the content. So the next time you are ready to pull your hair out from reading that same Sandra Boynton book “just one more time,” just remember that you are helping your child’s vocabulary, their sense well being, and their love for literature!

Reading a book to your child can take only a few minutes, but cultivating that love of books will be wonderful later. My oldest children are 11, 9 and 7 years old now and will happily spend hours reading to themselves and to their younger siblings! Take the time to read to your child today, and tomorrow you AND your child will be so happy!

A few of our personal favorites are : If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Policeman Small, The Hungry Caterpillar, and Make Way for Ducklings! What are your family’s top choices of young children books???

Holiday Baking

The PAXkids love to bake!

And the holidays are such a *great* excuse to bake (and eat) all of those delicious treats that you have been avoiding all year. Haha!

Cupcakes with sprinkles in the shape of Christmas trees? Why not?

Gingerbread men? SURE!!

Peppermint bark and chocolate fudge? Um. Of course!!

All the ladies, young and old, in PAXmommy Mel’s family gather early in December and bake stacks and stacks of cookies in oodles of different flavors. Chocolate chip, shortbread (two kinds), gingerbread men, oatmeal raisin, double chocolate, peanut butter, tiger eyes, oatmeal etc etc.

Not only do you leave with a giant assortment of delicious cookies, but what an excellent opportunity to spend time with family, laughing, joking, and just enjoying each other’s company.

Some of the best memories are made in the kitchen, that’s for sure!!

Lil sis

Being the youngest of seven children is really cool, right?

But being the lil’ sis of FOUR older brothers is even more special. I cannot wait to see how those big brothers treat this tiny little princess once she is walking and talking! Playing and creating! And imagining and pretending! And then….. Well, I cannot even think past the elementary school years, but you know where this is headed!

The first thing #babycate’s big brothers do when they get home from a class, the park, or errands is to run upstairs to see us!

One brother has been warned not to kiss her so much; poor baby was getting sore cheeks from ALL his rough smooches! Another brother has been asked to not to give her toys to hold anymore, as she is going to injure herself by accident. Instead we have asked him to play with the toy FOR her, we will see how that works out haha! Her oldest brother never remembers how cold his hands always seem to be, and he constantly startles her with his chilly fingers as he pets her hair, her arms, her toes! Her fourth, and youngest, brother wants to hold her, but only for a moment so that just as she gets situated again he’s all done, buh-bye!

Each brother shows his love in a different way, but it is amazing to see exactly how much they all already adore their baby sister. That love cannot be manufactured falsely; this is the real deal. It is 100% true sibling love and although their love first began to grow months ago, it is so much easier for them to all show it now! Well, maybe the littlest brother does not realize how special it is to have a baby GIRL in the family, but his older brothers remember finding out that Baby #7 was going to be #babycate. They were all so thrilled, and so far, their baby sister has been everything they had hoped for : sweet, happy, and makes Mommy smile!
